I recently visited Melto, a newly opened café in Watford, and it instantly became a favourite.

They roast their coffee in house, and the quality really shows from the first sip. The ambience is cosy and welcoming, making it such a nice spot to relax.

Everything here is made fresh, with a great selection of brunch dishes, fresh bakery items, and indulgent desserts. I tried the Melto Club Sandwich and the Spicy Chicken Crêpe, both packed with flavour, and finished with the Melto waffle and Pistachio Melto cookie dough, which were honestly unreal.

If you’re into good coffee, comfort food, and discovering new cafés, Melto is definitely worth checking out in Watford ☕✨

Ps: They have a grand opening on 10th January, 10am onwards. 50% off whole day on entire menu 🥳🥳

✨Ramadan Recipes✨ Peri Peri Chicken Cheese Balls

Cheese Balls MUST be one of the most popular Ramadan, iffar savoury food recipes. There are many variations to making Cheese Balls and I’ve tried many (some you can find on my IG - if you were looking to check them out 🙏). This year I decided to try a twist on the OG version and be more bold and fiery in my flavours 🤩.

Welcome to my version of Peri Peri Chicken Cheese Balls 😍. The Cheese Balls can be made in advance and frozen, deep fried or baked in the air fryer - whatever you fancy to make our fasting days, in Ramadan, that little more easier. Get your ingredients from @mullacosupermarket and look out for the Ramadan Sale coming soon!!

Ingredients - makes approx 30/40 Cheese Balls (depending on size)

For the Chicken Mixture:
500g Shredded Chicken (you can use mince or small cubed)
2tbsp Peri Peri Seasoning
1tsp Onion Powder
1tsp Red Chilli Powder
1tsp Coriander Powder
1tsp Cumin Powder
Salt and Black Pepper - to taste
2 small smashed potatoes
1 cup boiled macaroni/pasta
2 boiled eggs - grated
2 cups cheese - mix of mozzarella and cheddar
Chopped fresh coriander
1 cup white sauce for binding - heat 1 cup milk. Add 1tbsp cornflour mixed with water. Stir continuously until thick and to avoid lumps.

For Filling & Coating:
Cheese - Mozzarella or cheddar cubes
Egg - beaten, mix with flour and a little milk to make a slurry
Breadcrumbs @supremeingredients
Oil - for deep frying

Method
1. Prepare the Mixture - in a bowl combine the chicken, smashed potatoes, pasta, egg and seasoning. Mix well until thoroughly combined. Add the coriander and white sauce.
2. Form the Balls - take a small portion of the mixture and flatten it in your palm. Place a cube of cheese in the center and fold the chicken mixture around it. Chill for approx 1 hour.
3. Coat the Balls - dip into the beaten egg and coat with breadcrumbs - can be frozen at this stage.
4. Fry the cheese balls until golden brown and cooked through.

I’m back searching for the best hot chocolates across the North East.

Today I’m in Sunderland at @sheepfoldsstables to visit @deepnorthuk, a spot known for top doughnuts 🍩 but this visit was all about hot chocolate!

There’s a few festive drinks on the menu but it was the Gochujang Caramel hot choc that caught my attention. I liked the spice and the sweetness of this flavour and it was very smooth. Lucy had the malt hot chocolate which was tasty too, would recommend giving either (or both) a try!

I said I’d score it higher if it had toppings but in retrospect that feels unfair, as these were probably the best ‘standard’ hot chocs we’ve had during the series (sans toppings etc)

🐶 Sheepfolds is dog friendly in the main area until 8pm and Deep North serve pup cups. Look at him waiting for his, so cute!

I’m back searching for the best hot chocolates across the North East.

Today I’m in Newcastle at @lagomcoffeebar. A top spot for coffee so I thought I’d revisit and try out their hot chocolate.

This spot is tucked away behind The Gate and it’s a real hidden gem. The name Lagom is Swedish meaning ‘just the right amount’ and it’s fitting. The space has a cool, minimalist Scandi vibe, the kinda place you could sit a while and read while sipping your brew - coffee/tea/hot choc. ☕️

I had the regular hot chocolate with whipped cream and it was great, silky smooth.

Turns out throwing paint is kinda healing 🎨

I tried Splatter Art recently and it was exactly what I didn’t know I needed. Something about having no rules and no pressure, just let my brain switch off for a bit. No thinking, no overdoing it, just throwing paint at a canvas and letting whatever happens, happen. Messy, chaotic, weirdly calming.

You suit up, splash away, and then take your masterpiece home with you (yes, I’m calling it that). I walked out feeling lighter and a bit proud of the mess I’d made.👩🏼‍🎨

It’s inspired by Jackson Pollock’s whole “express the feeling, not the picture” approach, so there’s no right or wrong here.

Bonus points for it being BYOB, which definitely adds to the experience.🍷

If you’re looking for something a bit different and freeing, this is such a good shout. Would 100% do it again!

I only stumbled across @komodo.coffee a few months ago, and I’m so glad I did because it’s genuinely such a hidden gem. Tucked away in the Lanes, it’s an independent coffee shop with some fantastic bakes… especially the cookies 🍪

The cookies are honestly some of the best I’ve tried. They always have fun flavour combos, and they execute them so well. This time I went for dark chocolate and pistachio, but my standout favourite so far has been the tahini and chocolate. The balance of flavours is spot on, and quite a few of their bakes happen to be vegan too, which is a nice bonus! 🍫

I don’t drink coffee, but my coffee drinking friends say that Komodo’s is excellent. And for fellow non-coffee drinkers, they also serve some great kombuchas! ☕️ 🫖
